Filling in the sheet
Open any document and the sheet is already there. Click a box and type. Every label is editable too, so Bill to can become Customer and Rate can become Day rate without asking anyone’s permission.
The column bar above the line items adds and removes columns. Quantity and rate multiply into the amount. A column marked as a figure sits on its own without affecting the total, and a text column holds anything you like. Remove the Amount column and the totals block goes with it, which is how the delivery note and goods received note work.
Saving your work
This is the part worth reading twice. Nothing is stored anywhere. Close the tab and the sheet is gone.
Save as file writes the whole sheet to your own disk as a small .json file, including your logo. Open a saved file brings it back. That is the way to keep an invoice you might need to reissue, and the way to build yourself a starting template: fill in your own details once, save it, and open that file each time.
Printing and PDFs
Preview shows the finished document with the editing furniture stripped away and empty fields dropped. Print or save PDF opens your browser’s print dialogue, where “Save as PDF” is one of the destinations.
If the printed document looks wrong, two settings usually explain it:
- Background graphics must be on for some browsers to print the dark table header. Opsliy asks for it explicitly, but a locked-down printer profile can still override it.
- Scale should be 100%. “Fit to page” can shrink the sheet unexpectedly.
The Spacing control switches between Normal and Compact. Compact tightens the vertical rhythm without shrinking the text, and often saves a page on a long invoice.
Currency
The picker opens on the currency of your country, worked out from your browser’s own locale settings. Nothing is looked up over the network to do it. Change it whenever you like; the symbol follows through to every figure.
Logos, codes and signatures
Click the logo box to add an image. It is stored inside the saved file, so it comes back with the sheet.
The sidebar adds a QR code or a Code 39 barcode, at the top or the bottom of the sheet. Put a payment link, a verification URL or the document number in the box. The signature block adds two ruled columns at the foot of the page.
When something looks wrong
- My totals are hidden. The Amount column has been removed. Add it back from the column bar.
- A line vanished when I previewed. Untouched lines are dropped from the finished document on purpose. Type something into it and it stays.
- My saved file will not open. It must be a
.jsonfile made by Save as file. Files from other invoicing tools will not load. - The date reads the wrong way round. Dates follow your browser’s language setting rather than a fixed format.
